History of the Woodville-West Torrens Football Club
This club was formed in 1991 when the Woodville Football Club and the West Torrens Football Club merged.
Woodville joined the SA Amateur Football League in 1940, joining the League competition in 1959.
Woodville Football Club played in the B grade competition for five years before moving up to League.
Woodville wore colours of green and gold and were known as the Woodpeckers or the Peckers.
West Torrens broke away form the Port Adelaide Football Club in 1894 and called themselves the Port Natives.
The name West Torrens was adopted in 1897.
West Torrens, known as the Eagles, wore the colours of blue and gold.
The last game of the round in 1990, round 20 September 8, was Woodville v West Torrens. This was to be their last match as separate clubs with Woodville winning by 45 points.
Woodville-West Torrens finished fourth in their first season as a merged club in 1991.
The Eagles’ Scott Morphett was the League’s leading goal kicker in 1991 with 99 goals and hold the record for the most goals kicked over his career.
Andrew Taylor holds the record for most goals kicked in a game when against North in 1994 he kicked 12 goals.
