    CYC OUTLINE AND STRUCTURE

    INTRODUCTION

This competition, which was introduced in 1989, is conducted annually during the first or second week of the April school holidays.  A squad of up to 22 players, representing each League Club, is selected from their country promotional zone(s). Division 2 clubs can, upon receiving approval from the SANFL, select some fringe metropolitan players to participate in the Championships. The competition structure is:

    • 9 teams are split into 2 divisions.
    • Division 1
      • North Adelaide
      • Glenelg
      • Port Adelaide Magpies
      • Sturt
    • Division 2
      • Central Districts
      • Norwood
      • West Adelaide
      • South Adelaide
      • Woodville West Torrens

    • Each team in division 1 will play 3 matches against all teams.
    • Each team in division 2 will play 3 matches apart from CDFC who will play 4 matches.
    • All matches are played over two days in a modified game of 2 x 25 minute halves.
    • Two Champion Teams, one from each division.
    • At the end of all games the teams will be ranked according to their Win / Loss and percentage in their division.
    • The Champion team will be the team with the most wins in their division. In the case where 2 teams finish with the same amount of wins, the percentage will be worked out to determine the winner.
    • In Division 2 Central District will have their worst result deducted from the overall championship due to volunteering to play 4 matches.
    • There will not be any finals played.
    • A squad of 22 players selected from all teams will be named as the ‘Team of the Championships’.
    • The coaches of the two winning teams will be announced the Coaches of the “Team of the Championships”

The Championships further enhance the promotion and development of football throughout the country areas and enables the League Clubs to monitor the progress of the talented ‘youth aged’ footballers within its promotional zone. It should be realised that these Championships are a very important part of the Talent Pathway and that the performance during these championships will help identify talent for:
