U15 State Championships
This is a competition, conducted annually during the July school holidays, for South Australia's most talented U15 footballers. A squad of up to 25 players represents each League Club from both their Metropolitan and Country promotional zones. Minor round matches are conducted at League Club ovals to decide the finalists who play at AAMI Stadium prior to an AFL game. This competition is an integral part of the SANFL Development Plan as it enables the League Clubs to observe their players perform against quality opposition.
It should be realised that these Under 15 championships are a very important part of the Talent Pathway and that the performance during these championships will help in the selection of the Under 16 Scholarship Squad that will commence after the end of the playing season. Involvement in the Scholarship Squad may lead to inclusion in the 2008 U16 State Team.
These championships are also used as a selection process for talented Indigenous players to be identified. From the indigenous players who take part in this championship, 8 will be selected for the National U15 Qantas Indigenous AFL Kickstart Camp. Selected players will travel to Melbourne where they will represent South Australia. The players who show the most potential both ‘on and off’ the field will take part in a further camp where they will play against the South African U19 side.
