    Reclink Football Program

On Saturday July 2010 the South Australian Reclink Football competition was launched at Woodville Oval as part of the Eagles Community day. The competition will be held on Tuesday afternoons in the Southern Parklands

Reclink is a not-for-profit charitable organisation dedicated to advocating for and improving access to sporting and recreational opportunities for disadvantaged people and the benefits which flow from this, such as community connectedness and improved health and well-being.

Below is a report from Yasmine Weatherall Manager of Archway Services, one of the many agencies involved with Reclink:

“Following the recognition that engaging in physical activity is beneficial to both physical and mental health, Archway Services became members of Reclink, which provides recreational activities for those who might otherwise not have those opportunities. Archway was asked to participate in a football tournament, which commenced with a 10 minute “curtain raiser” at Woodville Oval this weekend. 6 Residents participated in the event along with Kristy Newcombe (one of the therapeutic case workers who has been co-ordinating this event with Reclink). Due to low numbers on our team we also had a couple of ring ins from the opposing team, Teen Challenge, and one from MIFSA.
Unfortunately our side did not do so well during the 10 minute game, but we are sure that, once we learn the rules and have some more practice sessions, that we will be able to give Teen Challenge, or any other team, a run for their money”

    Reclink 2010 Grand Finals.

The inaugural SA Grand Finals of Reclink Football took place at Woodville Oval in September. This unique competition of 9 a side with modified rules proved to be very popular. All participants showed great enthusiasm and games were played in true Reclink Spirit.

Attendance on the day was fantastic all enjoyed the traditional BBQ & Soft Drinks, we even had St Kilda legend Robbie Muir passing on his wealth of football knowledge.

    Grand Final One
    Hutt Street Tigers 3.4 (22) Def Swans 2.2 (14)

    Grand Final Two
    West Care/Byron Bloods 3.6 (24) Def Teen Challenge 3.3 (21)

Thanks to everyone involved with Reclink Football during season 2010, we look forward to seeing you all back in 2011.

"All I can say is that I saw a competition that started a bit shaky due to participants not being completely reliable or appreciating what the intentions were all about, to the Grand Final indicating a group of dedicated people who had grown in understanding about team work, playing the sport and enjoying being involved. All in all, it involved getting the Reclink people together, nurturing them into teams and getting results - a splendid effort - well done" -
Superintendent Barry Lewis, South Australia Police

Really enjoyed the day...when does training start again?" I told you last week the tigers would win the grand final...and we'll win again next year“!"
    Hutt St Tigers

"Our players were wrapped in the day...pity we had to miss that last goal...but there is always next year!" “Just seeing the player’s line up at the start of the match was a special moment...they were really there to play!"
