    Introduction

The Youth Championships, previously know as the County Youth Championships, was introduced in 1989 and is conducted annually during the second week of the July school holidays. A squad of up to 25 players, representing 9 League Clubs, is selected from its / their promotional zone(s) to participate in the Championships. The competition structure is:

    • 9 teams are split into 2 divisions.
    • Division 1
      • Woodville West Torrens
      • Glenelg
      • Port Adelaide Magpies
      • Sturt
    • Division 2
      • Norwood
      • West Adelaide
      • South Adelaide
      • Central Districts
      • North
    • Each team in division 1 will play 3 matches against all teams.
    • Each team in division 2 will play 3 matches against all teams.
    • West Adelaide will be the only team not having a bye and will play 4 matches (best 3 games will be counted towards final result)
    • Two Champion Teams, one from each division.
    • At the end of all games the teams will be ranked according to their Win / Loss and percentage in their division.
    • The Champion team will be the team with the most wins in their division. In the case where 2 teams finish with the same amount of wins, the percentage will be worked out to determine the winner.
    • There will not be any finals played.
    • Medallions will be presented to the Champion Teams at the end of the carnival.

The Championships further enhance the promotion and development of football throughout the local areas and enables the League Clubs to monitor the progress of the talented ‘youth aged’ footballers within its promotional zone. The Championships help SANFL Clubs identify players who may play consistent U18, Reserve or League football in the future. It should be realised that these Championships are a very important part of the Talent Pathway and that the performance during these championships will help identify talent for

    • SANFL U18 State Team.
