A NEW ERA FOR FOOTY EXPRESS

The State Government, the SANFL, and the Adelaide and Port Adelaide Football Clubs have reached an agreement to provide free bus services to AAMI Stadium in 2008 and beyond.

Transport Minister Patrick Conlon was joined today by SANFL Executive Commissioner, Leigh Whicker, and club Chief Executives, Steven Trigg and John James to announce the agreement.

Minister Conlon said the decision was great news for fans previously paying up to $11 for a return trip toan AFL game at West Lakes.

“I am very proud we have been able to reach this agreement. To reach a mutually beneficial position on this issue is a terrific achievement,” Minister Conlon said. “I’m sure the clubs will agree it is somewhat unnatural for them to work hand in hand but along with the SANFL they should be congratulated for ensuring their fans are the winners here.”

Adelaide Chief Executive Steven Trigg welcomed the new arrangements and Footy Express’ role in ensuring the Crows play to sell-out crowds every week.

“Thousands of our supporters catch the bus to the games each week and this agreement means we will continue to fill the stadium which provides us with a competitive edge over rival AFL clubs,” Mr Trigg
said.

Port Adelaide Chief Executive, John James said the Power looked forward to attracting more members with the offer of free public transport to games.

“There’s no doubt this will give us a real boost in attracting people through the gates and it will sit really well with our on-going marketing initiatives,” Mr James said.

SANFL Executive Commissioner, Leigh Whicker said the provision of free public transport to AAMI Stadium further enhanced it as one of the AFL’s premier venues.

“This is great news for all involved and complements the refurbishment of the stadium and will make the entire AAMI Stadium experience a most enjoyable one,” Mr Whicker said. “The AFL is supportive of the concept and there will be major benefits in the West Lakes precinct on match days with reduced road traffic and associated congestion.”

The agreement will see free bus travel to AAMI Stadium factored into AAMI Stadium and Club Season tickets ($2 extra per Season), daily tickets excluding children’s tickets ($3 extra) and car parking ($1 extra) prices. In addition the SANFL will be announcing in the near future the securing of a major sponsor to further assist with the funding of this initiative.
