SORE SCHELL WILL PLAY
Central District utility Daniel Schell is a certain starter on Sunday despite being rested from training at AAMI Stadium last night. Schell, an integral piece in the Bulldogs' premiership quest, spent a large portion of the 70-minute session working one-on-one with injured team-mate Adam Switala.
While the rest of the Dogs trained, Schell only handballed with Switala before leaving the track early.
"He'll be OK - he just has a light night later in the week at this time of year," Central District team manager Allan Turbill said, adding Schell was hindered by general soreness.
"We'll train again on Saturday morning so he'll do a bit more then. He's got an older body but he'll come up all right, he's a bit wiser so we take it easy on him."
In the unlikely event Schell was to miss, Bulldog forward Heath Lawry would be the ideal replacement. Lawry, omitted from the second semi-final line-up, has been keen to impress at training in the past nine days - something coach Roy Laird has certainly noted.
"We've got options - Heath Lawry will come into calculations as our other tall," Laird said.
"Depending on what we see on the day, conditions may play a part in that as well. But at this stage it's good to have some options open.
Of Laird's "small" options, Louis Hadden and Lee Spurr head the list of possible inclusions. But their chances would only increase should one of their team-mates get injured.
TY ALLEN'S absence from Glenelg training isn't expected to keep him from playing in Sunday's SANFL grand final against Central District.
The Tigers' fearless midfielder - who suffered a dislocated shoulder in the preliminary final - was last night rested from the club's main training session at AAMI Stadium.
"He's got a slight head cold but the intention is he will be there on Sunday," Glenelg operations manager Ken Applegarth said. While Allen made an appearance at the Tigers' clean skilled session, he was rugged up in a tracksuit and kept his distance from team-mates.
"He's very important to us - he's had a terrific year and he's just such an important player in the grunt department," Glenelg coach Mark Mickan said.
"He is a very skilful player and very valuable to our group."
