ALL CLEAR FOR MAGPIE JOSH
X-Rays have cleared the Hawthorn recruit of damage to his arm after he left the ground in the final quarter of the loss to South Adelaide on Saturday. It was initially thought he had suffered serious damage but he is expected to be available for this week. "It was like a corked arm," Magpies' chief executive Matthew Richardson said. "He had X-rays and there is no damage so he should be playing this week." The news on Thurgood is a huge relief for the club after being pounded by injuries in the first two rounds. In the opening round the Magpies finished the game against Central District with just 17 fit men. The club lost Brad Murray (shoulder) and Luke Saunders (knee) for a month. On Saturday there was more carnage with Daniel Lees injuring a hamstring and Thurgood unable to finish the game. Byron Pickett, who returned to the club this season, is likely to make himself available for the Eagles match after missing the second round because of personal reasons. The Eagles, who like the Magpies are winless, should recall forward Mark Passador to the league side after he returned to action with a nine-goal haul in the reserves' game against Glenelg on Saturday. A replacement will be needed for James Rimington, ruled out for up to six weeks with a broken jaw. |
