PATRICK DANGERFIELD A DANGER TO NORWOOD

It is a rare bonus for new Bloods coach Andrew Collins to have Adelaide's top draft pick, Dangerfield, available for selection. Despite being picked up by the Crows, the utility opted to stay based in Geelong to finish school.

However, school holidays have allowed Dangerfield to venture west and assist in the attack on Norwood, which was annihilated by a firing Sturt in round one.

Collins said he had been pleased with Dangerfield's development so far but thought this weekend would present a completely new challenge.

"I expect him to stand up to the rigours of senior football," Collins said.

"He played in a reserves trial game for us two weeks ago and did very well."

The 17-year-old, who will celebrate his milestone 18th birthday on-field tomorrow, played with Geelong under-18s last weekend and kicked two goals. Collins was being coy about his placement with the Bloods but he could potentially play as a running defender. Also lining up for West for the first time are John Pratt and Steve Bailey, who will be facing their former side, Norwood.

"They are part of West Adelaide's future. Hopefully they will both have very long playing careers so they won't get caught up on one game," Collins said.

Excited about his premiere game, Collins thought having a first-round bye was neither an advantage nor a hindrance.

He said last week was a good opportunity for him and the coaching staff to "watch a lot of footy".
