    MOUSE REMAINS A TIGER

Glenelg Football Club is proud to announce the 2006 Magarey Medallist, Brett Backwell, has signed on to play the 2008 SANFL Season with the Tigers.

Brett, affectionately known around the Club as Mouse renewed his contract with the Bays for a further 12 months on the close of the Tigers best season in nearly a decade. Glenelg finished the year in 4th position, clawing their way up from 6th
    position the previous season.

Transferring in 2003 from West Adelaide, Brett has secured a key leadership position in the Club for the past two years, through his strong mentoring ability, professionalism and courage on and off the field. It is not surprising the diminutive on-baller has one of the highest possession rates within the League and leads the Club statistically in terms of ‘one percenters’.

    Reaching his 100th
game milestone in round 9, 2007 Brett has no plans of slowing down. He continues to play award winning football and is an inspiration to his peers. His experience at the highest level of the game has enabled him to dispense valuable advice to many of the Clubs talented young players. “Brett has a passion for the game and indeed a gift for passing on his knowledge to those following in his footsteps” Senior Coach Mark Mickan commented.

In his first season with the Club, Brett was named the ‘SANFL Player of the Year’ and was awarded the Fos Williams medal for the best South Australian player in a state of origin match. The same year he was runner up in the Club’s JH Ellers Best and Fairest Award. His career continued to develop through his focussed and spirited determination. His dedication was recognised in 2006 when Brett was awarded the Magarey Medal - the leagues highest honour. His stellar year continued when he also won the Club’s JH Ellers Best and Fairest award and the Players Player award voted by his team mates.

“As a Club we are delighted Brett has renewed his commitment to Glenelg Football Club. It is reflective to the overall confidence of the Playing group has in each other and in the future prospects of the Club.” Mickan concluded.

The Club encourages their supporters to follow Brett’s lead and sign with the Bays for the 2008 Season. Membership packages for 2008 will be released very soon. To register your interest in becoming a 2008 member contact the Club on 8294 5333 or visit the website
