Search Award nominee.
In just his fourth League appearance, 19 year old Holmes was a standout for the Tigers in their 14 point loss to South Adelaide at Hickinbotham Oval on Sunday.
Playing on the wing, Holmes accumulated 20 possessions, including 12 kicks, eight handballs, six marks and three tackles and was named in the Tigers’ best. In a team that was down on form, Tom proved consistent throughout the match with his efficiency and general use of the ball a highlight of his game. Recruited from the West Gambier Football Club, Tom played his first League match for Glenelg in round 23 of the 2007 season. Following an impressive debut, he went on to play in the Tigers’ elimination and first semi-final.
Introduced last season, the Coca-Cola Star Search Award recognises the talented youngsters making their mark in League ranks.
To be eligible for the Award, nominees are required to meet the following criteria:
- players must have played no more than 8 State League games at the start of the 2008 season
- players must be aged 21 or under at January 1, 2008
- AFL rookies are eligible for the award unless promoted to the senior list of their AFL club
- Players who are suspended by the tribunal during the 2008 season are ineligible to win the award
Following each round of the home and away season, each competing club nominates one eligible player from their team. A review panel then selects one player as the Coca-Cola Star Search Award nominee.

Each weekly nominee receives a gift pack, compliments of Coca-Cola.
On the completion of the minor round, one of the 23 nominees will be chosen, by the review panel as the 2008 Coca-Cola Star Search Award Winner. The award carries a winner’s purse of $2000. The Coca-Cola Star Search Award Winner will be presented the Award at the Magarey Medal Presentation Dinner.
