James Boyd from the South Adelaide Football Club has been named the Round Six Coca-Cola Star Search Award nominee. 
Boyd, playing his ninth League match, and sixth of the 2008 season, was named the Panthers’ best in their loss to North Adelaide at Prospect on Saturday.
His performance on the weekend follows best on ground performances in rounds three and five. Playing in the midfield, James accumulated 27 possessions on Saturday, including thirteen kicks, fourteen handballs, five marks and two goals.
A small nippy rover, Boyd is skilful on both sides of his body. He made his League debut in Round 7 of the 2007 season against Glenelg and went on to play an additional two matches last season.
Recruited from the Noarlunga Football Club James has progressed through South Adelaide’s underage and reserves teams, winning the SANFL’s McCallum Medal as the best and fairest U17 player in 2005 and the SANFL’s Reserves best and fairest last year. He has also represented South Australia at the U16 National Championships in 2005 and the U18 National Championships in 2006. Boyd is South Adelaide’s second Coca-Cola Star Search Award nominee this season, following James Turner in Round 2.
To be eligible for the Award, nominees are required to meet the following criteria:
- players must have played no more than 8 State League games at the start of the 2008 season
- players must be aged 21 or under at January 1, 2008
- AFL rookies are eligible for the award unless promoted to the senior list of their AFL club
- Players who are suspended by the tribunal during the 2008 season are ineligible to win the award
Following each round of the home and away season, each competing club nominates one eligible player from their team. A review panel then selects one player as the Coca-Cola Star Search Award nominee.

On the completion of the minor round, one of the 23 nominees will be chosen, by the review panel as the 2008 Coca-Cola Star Search Award Winner. The award carries a winner’s purse of $2000. The Coca-Cola Star Search Award Winner will be presented the Award at the Magarey Medal Presentation Dinner.
