    2008 SOUTH AUSTRALIAN FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME INDUCTEES


    More than 300 distinguished guests gathered at AAMI Stadium tonight to welcome five new inductees into the South Australian Football Hall of Fame.


    Established in 2002, the South Australian Football Hall of Fame acknowledges players, coaches, umpires, administrators and journalists who have made a significant contribution to the game of Australian Football in this state.

    This year’s inductees are:

    Geoff Kingston 
    (West Torrens 1960-1968 and Advertiser sports journalist from 1964-1989)

    Peter Woite 
    (Port Adelaide 1969-1978 and Magarey Medallist 1975)

    Nigel Smart 
    (South Adelaide 1988-1992, 2004, and Adelaide Crows 1991-2004)

    Doug Thomas 
    (West Adelaide 1951-1956, 1961-1965)

    Keith Thomas
    (Norwood 1979-1986, 1989-1992)

    Kingston was a sports journalist at The Advertiser from 1964 and Chief Football Writer from 1979 – 1989. He was also a part-time columnist in 2000.

    ¨        Kingston was considered somewhat ahead of his time with a new writing style that added emotion and more “art” into football writing at a time when television and talk-back radio was stealing ground as to detailing how football was being played.
