    About the SANFL

    The SANFL (South Australian National Football League) is the premier League and governing body for Australian Rules Football in South Australia.

    Originally established as the South Australian Football Association on April 30, 1877, the SANFL is the oldest surviving football league in Australia and one of the oldest football competitions in the world.

    The SANFL controls the League competition in South Australia, which comprises nine clubs - Central District, Glenelg, North Adelaide, Norwood, Port Adelaide, South Adelaide, Sturt, West Adelaide and Woodville-West Torrens.

    It also owns the licences for South Australia's two AFL clubs - Adelaide and Port Adelaide.

    The SANFL owns AAMI Stadium, the largest sporting stadium in the state and in doing so, is the only football league in Australia to possess its own sporting grounds.
